Everyone has had it happen. You find a new love. Maybe you are introduced by a friend, family member, or you meet randomly. Very rarely does the butterfly feeling last but for me, this time, it did. For nearly six years I gave the love as good as I got it. It was on 9-9-99 that everything changed.
I can remember like it was yesterday……….
*flashback wave things and cue weird noises from Wayne World*
Time: 11:00 pm September 8th, 1999.
Location: ATM in the local mall. Upstairs.
I walked away from the ATM with a nervous anticipation, I had to hustle, it was almost time. As I hurriedly got into line I could see that the crowd was rowdy. A camera crew had arrived, people were throwing shirts and boxes wrapped in weird orange paper. The clock struck midnight and the line started to slowly move. A huge table full of wondrous items awaited me. I shuffled side to side until finally, it was my time. I pointed to a few items, a man nodded in my direction, handed the items to the next person. I forked over my cold hard cash and I had it. In my grubby little hands, I had a Sega Mother-Fucking Dreamcast.
Little did I know that the Dreamcast would drive me from my long time lover, the arcade.
I use to spend all my time and money at the arcade. NBA Jams, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Virtual Fighter, Killer Instinct, and countless others. Once I relized that I could do all these activiteis, at my house and in my underwear none the less. I was a convert. Arcade pfffffffftttttttt, fuck that shit. While I lost games such as T-Mek, I gained so much more. I suppose that when one door closes another one does open up.
